10 Life lessons I learnt in 2013 ♥

1. Life is FULL of challenges and struggles but it’s possible to overcome them!

2013 was one of the most challenging times of my life where nothing was going exactly the way I was expecting it and in a year I went through so many difficult situations. To be honest if someone told me about the extent of all the challenges I experienced in 2013 I would have said ‘there’s no WAY I can survive all that’ – but you know what I DID SURVIVE! And that’s when I realised we have the capabilities to overcome A LOT of the challenges the life throws at us! It just requires a lot of patience, persistence and time!!

That being said I did get LOTS of help and for everyone that helped me I’m so grateful!!

Life is always full of challenges – take them as lessons and count your blessings!

 2. Sometimes you’ll fail in life but it’s really not the end of the world.

As an Asian girl I’ve always prioritise academic achievement over many other types of achievements in life, but for the first time I actually failed something and it needs to be repeated. Failing a university subject isn’t something I’m proud of and to be honest – it was extremely shocking! To a point where I felt like there was no future in my education but that was just a very negative mentality I was stuck on! After taking a break from university for a semester I can see that I need to finish my degree (even if it’s going to almost kill me) not just to please my Asian mother but for myself as well!

2014 is going to be so challenging as I’ll be finishing a degree in a career I don’t really care about with an entire grade that I’m not familiar with but what is a life without a little challenge??

3. Friendship is more than just a number and maintaining them takes real EFFORT!

So in my second and third year of university I became SUPER social and went to every social outing, parties and all kinds of craziness! It was A LOT of fun – meeting new people and getting to know them better! I’ve always loved people and interacting with them always energised me!

But something changed when I turned 21 at the end of 2012 because suddenly I realised without real, strong friendships to rely on I was so lost and didn’t even have anyone to turn to! That’s when I realised being a friend is so much more than just talking to them and drinking together at some party.

In 2013 I tried really hard to deepen my friendships with people and to be honest – IT’S SO HARD! Because as we get older we get busier with our careers, studies and other commitments it becomes a real ordeal to people when they’re free (especially since I’m so spontaneous and last minute!!). But I’ve learnt that even though it’s difficult it’s REALLY worthwhile to deepen friendships because now I know even if I’m struggling with life there are people who are going to be there for me and I’m always willing to do the same for them!! ♥ you guys! Hehe

4. Experiencing what you don’t want will make you SO much more appreciative when you get what you want!

This Christmas period has been my busiest one yet – I was working two different retail jobs! But I have absolutely no regrets because now that my roster has loosened up I can TRULY appreciate every second of rest and break that I get! Working hard made me realise you have to experience the exhaustion, restlessness, stress and anxiety to truly appreciate the relaxation, rest and rejuvenation! It’s the same with many other aspects – it was only when I experienced complete confusion and disorientation that I can be so thankful for direction and orderliness!

For someone that used to run away from negative feelings it was definitely something that was different but definitely worthwhile!

5. Family is the one thing that’ll ALWAYS be there for you!

Friends will leave, boyfriends/girlfriends will leave and even you’ll want to leave yourself at some point but your family they’re stuck with you for life!

No matter what that bond of blood means they unconditionally have to love & take care of you!

IT’S SO IMPORTANT to learn how to love and appreciate my family more! It’s a challenge because I rarely see any of my family members (my mum works a lot and my dad’s in China) but when I can talk to them I do! At the end of the day whatever happens they’re always there for me! ♥

 6. It’s actually possible to achieve the things you want – as long as you are willing to put in time, effort & energy!

To be honest I didn’t realise how much I doubted myself and avoided taking risks because I thought I couldn’t achieve a lot of things! I kept second guessing my abilities all the time but now I’ve learnt to accept that it is possible to get to where I want to go in life but I just need to let go of my fears and JUST TRY! You don’t know where you’ll go until you try! You can do what you ACTUALLY WANT TO instead of pleasing someone else and trying to achieve their dreams!

7. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses – No one’s perfect!

This is something my mum use to tell me all the time but I sometimes didn’t see how that was applied in real life… because I never really got close to people! But now I’m starting to see how that statement is so true~ including for myself! There are SOOOO many things I suck at – technology, cooking and the list go on! But at the end of the day I can work hard to overcome my weaknesses and make them my strengths but if it’s something I can’t change like my height then I’ll just learn to accept it!

When interacting with people it’s so easy to pick up their flaws but it’s better to accept that part of them and focus on the qualities that makes you like them!

8. It’s important to find out what your life values are!

Decision making is one of the hardest things to do in life and in 2013 I was really confused by some major life decisions – I didn’t know what to choose and what I wanted!!! That is still a problem I have but what really helped me was to find out what my values were. Some examples of mine are honesty, curiosity and enthusiasm!

Here’s a link for more information about values:

9. Ask for help especially when you need it!

Before 2013 I always thought subconsciously that asking for help whether professionally or from friends was a sign of weakness and it meant wasting their time while adding to that person’s burden! I was really afraid of showing my weaknesses to people (and now I’m sharing this on the internet haha) but it really is what made the difference! If I didn’t seek help and support the way I did there’s no way I’d be as happy as I am now!

Whatever issues you might be having right now – ask for some assistance! It doesn’t make you any less of a person and you might be surprised about how much better things will be for you! Also I learnt to help other people out when they need it and to be honest it makes me feel happy just to be needed by someone!

10. Don’t stop being creative!

Because I study Pharmacy and it’s a profession where rules are followed to an extreme because it’s concerning other people’s health but for the past 4 years I haven’t been able to express myself creatively in any way and to be honest that took a toll on me! Not saying I’m the greatest artist or most imaginative person but it is important to explore the creative side of our lives sometimes – It keeps things interesting!

It’s the legacy you leave to the world! Blogging and dancing are the two things I’m doing that is creative right now and I love those two things so much!

I hope by sharing these things on the internet it can help one person who’s struggling with their issues to have courage to seek help and see some hope! Hopefully 2014 will teach me more valuable life lessons – Don’t ever stop learning!

one of my favourite selfies from 2013!! :D

P.S. I have many doubts and fears when I’m posting something like this on the internet for the fear of criticism and judgement but just remember to respect people’s journey and timing! No one’s the same!

Rose Tinted Glasses – Bailey and Nelson (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

"Seeing life through Rose tinted glasses" ♥
About few weeks ago my blogger friend Miss Senna invited me to head to a Bailey and Nelson store in Paddington for a review post on their sunglasses - of course I happily accepted the invitation! So here's my blog post regarding the awesome glasses I received from Bailey and Nelson!
My favourite photo <3 SAO COOL!
The store is located at 57 William Street in Paddington and as typical tourists we got lost so it took quite a bit of time just getting to the store! During our adventure we also accidentally got distracted by another Bailey and Nelson store on the way and it was quite a lovely store so that really made me excited!

Totally irrelevant to anything but there was a fish bowl at the store with a gold fish in it! And as my title is Lingfish I got really excited about that! (Yes I'm easily amused) :DD

Intro to the Bailey and Nelson brand:

This is an Australian brand that originated from Sydney! It was first ever sold in the markets by the three blokes that created the brand (ironically none of them were named Bailey or Nelson) and that day we spoke to one of the originators - Scott. What really amazed me was the easy going and laid back ambience of the store combined with the really simple and organised layout of the glasses it made browsing effortless!

 The Sunglasses:

We were given a choice of which sunglasses we wanted to try and review - now in terms of decision making it was really challenging (not just because of my indecisive nature) but mainly due to my face structure. I have a typical Asian flat nose with high cheek bones and a round shape so choosing sunglasses that compliment is pretty challenging! After much trying and sampling I choose the Shelley in Rose!
The frontal view of Shelley!
Side view of shelley!
Features of Shelley:
- oversized = great for really big faces
- square shape = creates more structure for round faces
- Rose/pink frames = compliments my pale skin tone
- brown lens = not too harsh and brightens everything when you put them on
- polarised lens = better for your eyes because it cuts off 99% of Glare from the sun!
- medium sized arms = not too fragile that I can break it or too bulky that seats uncomfortably on my ears!
Ain't they prettyyyyy~

After thoughts:

Honestly I've been wearing these glasses everyday and they're really easy to wear! Super comfortable and it really stands out because I wear so much black. They have a retro hipster look to them which is what I really like! The fact that the sunnies have their own names is pretty cool too! I'll definitely be continuing to wear these :D
Because my phone totally stopped functioning while I was at the store I couldn't take any notes and not many photos either so I decided to have a photo shoot based on them! :)
Enjoy the photos!
With the beautiful flowers in Hyde Park :)
Pretending to read! The books was about atoms.. ERR chemistry nightmares!
heheh More photos of my gorgeous glasses! <3
Serious business TEXTING awww YEAH! :P
The obligatory selfie - ALL DAY ERR DAY!
All jokes aside I was really grateful for this opportunity! Thank you to Scott, Miss Senna (check out her blog) and YoungTae my wonderful photographer! If only I got to this kind of stuff ALL the time~ instead of working SO MUCH! D:

Review: Roses De Chloé Fragrance ♥

Grace - Femininity-Complicity
Roses De Chloé is the newest fragrance to join the Chloe brand after the refreshingly musky See By Chloe. In Australia it was released in November and just recently a pop store started to promote the fragrance for the Christmas Holidays!! So this is just a review post about this wonderful new fragrance.
The gorgeous bottle :)
Just a little background I actually work in fragrance selling and currently I'm working at the Chloe popup store but this is not a biased review! It's because I'm working with this fragrance literally ALL the time that I've smelt it very thoroughly and this are my honest perspectives about it.
Roses is a woody floral fragrance with a top note of Bergamot essence and alcohol which the quickly settles in to the heart of Damascena rose essence which honestly is absolutely tender and beautiful! Many people who smell the perfume cards after I hand it to them (the cards are sprayed then some time left for them to settle) - will turn around and tell me how wonderful the scent is!!
After reaching the heart of the fragrance there is a trail of magnolia accord, white musk and amber which are at the base note and helps to fragrance to stay on the skin. Because Roses is only available as an eau de Toilette the concentration and strength isn't over powering! It's an easy to wear fragrance really suitable for women of any age!

It has an adorable bottle! Seriously the bow and the plates make this bottle such a collectable item in anyone's perfume collection! And at the moment our awesome pop up store has a special service where you can engrave the back of the metal part of the bottle - FOR FREE! :) to be honest I want a bottle for myself so badly right now!
The store poster!
GIFT SET!!
So this is the gift pack where when you purchase the fragrance you also get a free body lotion and engraving service plus more freebies that we will throw in! *cough shameless plug cough*
That's the pop up store which I'm working at! It's definitely fun but not without it's challenges! Hope for the best for the next week or so! Need to meet all my sales budgets (praying that I will so I can still have a job!!)
hehe I love this uniform!! <3
Here's me with my uniform looking sharp! :) The colour of the top is the most amazing thing! I adore this uniform to the maximum!

♥Lingfish~

P.S Roses are now one of my favourite flowers due to work - Let me show you why~

HOW GORGEOUS ARE THESE FLOWERS <3 OMGG SO PRETTY and ELEGANT!

HELLO WORLD :)

Hi blogiverse for everyone that don't know me - My name is Ling (not Ming or Ching or Bling) and I'm a lifestyle blogger in Sydney Australia!
YEAH SELFIE :P
Here is another blog by Ling! This year I've definitely made more blogs than any other year of my life - when I counted all of them it's like TEN BLOGS!! For people that know nothing at all about me now they know - I'm definitely an excessive person with a compulsion to blog. So here's my blogging story:
I started blogging very early in 2008-2009 (I can't remember because it was 4 years ago) and it started very simply because at the time it was really trending among my friends at one point all of my high school friends were blogging about various different things mainly just the angst and worries of teenage life (we've all been there right?!). At the time I was really passionate about a few things but one thing that I was OBSESSED with was Kpop. That's nothing too crazy or amazing but at the time kpop wasn't popular or as mainstream as it is today - Gangnam style wasn't released then! So it was quite a niche topic and even though I was blogging mainly to distract myself from the stress of HSC (university entrance exam) somehow my blog really took off and I wrote for a kpop website VERY briefly!
It was all very new and exciting and I really really enjoyed the entire experience. What made me want to start blogging again this year was the fact I left this kpop blog for FOUR YEARS because my life became so preoccupied with university, parties, socialising, work, dating and a whole bunch of crazy new things but this blog has consistently been viewed by people ALL over the world! And at this point it's almost to 100,000 views! Now that may not seem like a large number to most people especially to those well established famous bloggers out there but for me especially as a 17 year old girl - IT'S A HUGE DEAL! It made me realise how I like to share my passion and life with people and that people READ what I wrote!
WHUT EVEN?! :O

http://rarefish.wordpress.com/ for anyone that wants to check out my old blog.
That's where the motivation to start another blog came from - good work past Ling!
2013 has been a year of crazy (definitely will have another post about that later). But I realised that I need to get back to this form of sharing and connecting with people because it's what I love and enjoy! Don't get me wrong it didn't take me 11 months to realise I want to get back into blogging - my 9 other blog attempts all failed because I really couldn't stick to just one subject matter! My life is really a spectrum of things and although this blog is going to predominately beauty, fashion, skin care, food and health related there are so many other things I want to blog about as well!
Happilylingfish is born out of this crazy. And this time I am determined to stick with it and blog continuously at least for this year until 2014! It's going to be last year of uni and just like with my last blog which was in my last year of high school it really made me happier and kept me going I'm hoping this blog will do the same! HERE TO BEING A NOOB!  :D
♥ Lingfish~
P.S. I'm also currently on Tumblr (It's amazing!) So join me there!
